Essential Goods Program 2016

ReSOURCE is once again providing $150,000 in essential goods to alleviate poverty in Vermont through the Essential Goods Program. By obtaining vouchers, individuals and families in need can receive donations of those durable goods essential to safe and comfortable living such as cookware, mattresses, bed frames, dressers, books, washing machines, ranges, toys for kids, and even desktop computers.

ReSOURCE’s Essential Goods Program also supports sister nonprofit organizations, helping them meet their own organizational needs for information technology, office furniture, and appliances.

Vouchers for Essential Goods can be obtained from over 30 partner agencies in northern and central Vermont. Those agencies will identify the needs of the applicants and issue vouchers in the appropriate amounts. Vouchers can then be redeemed at any of ReSOURCE’s retail stores in Burlington, Barre, and Hyde Park. Nonprofit organizations needing materials for their own operations are eligible for a 25% discount on all purchases off ReSOURCE’s already low prices and may request additional support by talking with store managers at each ReSOURCE location.

In 2015, the ReSOURCE Essential Goods Program supported 1,013 beneficiaries including low income families, refugees, victims of disaster, women fleeing domestic violence, and homeless individuals moving into permanent housing. ReSOURCE also provided information technology equipment, office furniture, and other needed supplies to 66 nonprofit agencies. This support helped these agencies fulfill their mission.

ReSOURCE’s Essential Goods Program is made possible thanks to thousands of cash and material donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, as well as the Vermont Agency of Economic Opportunity.
