18th Annual YouthBuild Carpentry Challenge

18th Annual YouthBuild Carpentry Challenge

ReSOURCE YouthBuild crews from Barre and Burlington drove to Methuen, Massachusetts Thursday morning to compete in the 16th Annual YouthBuild Carpentry Challenge. Late that evening, they came home with the Gold & Bronze medals!

ReSOURCE YouthBuild in Barre finished with a bronze medal out of the eight regional YouthBuild teams competing.

ReSOURCE YouthBuild Burlington travelled the farthest of all the teams and took home the gold.

All teams were given plans and lumber for a building project to complete in a three hour span. Judging was based upon time of completion, with penalty time added for infractions such as poor safety practices or inaccurate measurements. The students were on their own within the “pit” doing all the work themselves, with just one instructor acting as a coach from outside the tape. The students had to work from the plans to do the math and create their own cut lists, then collaborate as a team on construction.

Congratulations YouthBuild! ReSOURCE is very proud of you all!
